It is ready to drop into your car without all of the difficultly and cost involved in swapping out the shift-assembly, which involves cutting out the factory parts.

It also means you don't have to ruin your existing shift box. You can sell it or keep it in case you want to swap back. I bought the shifter new and had it put in the box, but then decided to keep the car stock.
